On Thursday, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the company will be called Meta. Zuckerberg said, "We are a company that builds technology to connect people.". He added, "Together, we can finally make technology work for people." “And together, we can bring the creator economy to life.”

“To reflect who we are and what we hope to build,” he added. He said the name Facebook doesn’t fully encompass everything the company does now, and is still closely linked to one product. “But over time, I hope we are seen as a metaverse company.”

The CEO discussed plans to build a "metaverse" - a digital world built on top of our own, incorporating virtual reality headsets and augmented reality. Zuckerberg said the metaverse will be the mobile internet's successor. No matter how far apart we are, we'll feel like we're right there with them."
